The Binding of Isaac Redemption

by Eugenio Delgado Figueroa

This project is a mod for the game known as "The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+", and not an actual game on its own.

This project is a mod for the game formally known as "The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+", it's main goal is to add new and unique content to it (if you are not familiar with this game I'd recommend checking it out before applying in case you want to do so), going from simple stuff such like new items and trinkets for it, as well as new runes; to something more complex such as new enemies to fight against and even brand new unique bosses.

This project consists on 5 different development phases:

#1: This phase consists on adding all (or most of) the enemies and bosses planned for this mod, we are already around half way through [check the embedded videos] but we're still working towards finishing this phase, main issue is, of course, the sprite shortage.

#2: This phase consists on adding our first unique character to the mod, 'Endrika': This character is able to use the enemies' souls at her advantage, going from simple stuff such as temporary buffs, to more unique elements such like unique power-ups depending on the number of 'Boss Souls' you get.

#3: This phase consists on adding our second and last character to the mod, 'Zorian': This character revolves mostly around the usage of rocks, that's mostly it, he's such an early concept right now.

#4: This phase consists on adding all or most of the items into the game, say collectibles, trinkets, runes or any other sort of 'item', going from collectibles that could present you with a catchy gimmick, to new unlock-able items for the new two characters; to other sort of items such as trinkets, that would have simpler effects but yet making them interesting enough to use.

#5: As our final phase of development, we plan to add a brand new floor to the game that would give continuity to the vanilla game's lore, this floor called the "Limbo", as you might expect this floor is full of dark references, having its enemies mainly revolving around shadows and playing with the dark aesthetic as well, this floor will feature a couple of unique bosses that will show up just before the actual final boss, acting as some sort of warm-up. Another gimmick for this floor will be that you will have the floor's main boss "The Shadow" chasing you around the entire floor as you explore, either working alongside the enemies to give you a game over, or doing more interesting stuff such as possessing them to grant them special buffs. As for the final boss, this boss is meant to be the peak of "Isaac's" problems, having to actually fight his sins from beneath once and for all; this fight mainly consists on you having to fight versions of yourself (also known as the game's characters) that would be using the most iconic items from the game to present to you with a new and unique way to fight a boss. As a side note, this last phase of development will also feature new unlock-able items for every character in the game for defeating the new final boss, which is as well, in a new 'final' chapter.

Now that I've explained what the mod is about, it's time to show our current progress (it might be very noticeable the way how the quality of the mobs escalate with each video):

Sorry that might seem unprofessional, but I ran out of space in this box. Most of these enemy showcases are either outdated or they require serious polish, nevertheless they are evidence of this project's work.

    My part

My role on this mod is that I am the main programmer for it, although I play another important role as the main leader of it.
As a matter of fact I started this project a long while ago, most exactly on May 2018 and we've had good progress so far, but we're running low on artists and there's not much I can do to recruit any new members but asking in here.

    (Expected) Revenue

As you might've guessed when you first read that this was a "mod", this project does not expect to get any revenue whatsoever.
I started this project as a matter of passion and my team followed up, so we are just working on it for love towards the game and also for fun.
If you are not interested because this does not seem professional enough or because you are expecting revenue from it, then you have a totally valid point, but in the case you are still wanting to join, just let me tell you that doesn't matter what happens during the development of this mod, there's no way either you, my team or me are getting any sort of revenue from this project.

    Risks & challenges

The main risk for the mod is it ceasing development, but as a matter of fact, I'm determined to finish this project no matter the circumstances.

As for the challenges, there are two main challenges: the first one is the reason I am posting this, a radical shortage of artists in the team, we used to have a decent amount, but a couple of them left due to external causes, and the rest of the team can't really work even if they wanted to since they have really busy schedules, so we only got a single artist for the team and he is unable to work on bigger 'sprites' such like the ones for bosses; the second one is the challenges I must go through as a coder for my own mod, since I am not really a professional nor the most appropriate person for the job, although I am doing my best and as it is today, I've improved a lot, just check the boss' showcases if you want to see for yourself (in case you are familiar with the game, of course).

      Function description

Your main role on the team will be to lend us a hand on the art counterpart, since we got the coding power, but we have a complete lack of 'spriting' power.

      Requirements

      1. You must have decent knowledge on how to work with the art-style from "The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+". 2. You must have a flexible schedule, so it is better for you to work more consistently on the project instead of once a week, for example.

      Offer

*This is a mod and thus it doesn't have any profit in mind. Right now there's not much I can offer but the fun experience on working on a project, on the plus side you get to work on *your own schedule* and hopefully make long term friendships and partnerships for future projects. Nevermind the 'Devotion' box, you can choose whether to work 1-2 or 32-40 hours, as long as you remain being active.
